At FireRoute Education and Training, our DZ Driver Training Course is built with one mission in mind: preparing future firefighters to safely and confidently operate fire service vehicles under real-world conditions. Our instructors are experienced firefighters who bring practical, frontline knowledge into every lesson—because no one understands the job better than those who do it.
Learn to perform thorough inspections of commercial fire vehicles following Schedule 1 of HTA Regulation 199/07. This includes the full exterior, in-cab, and interior evaluations.
Understand and apply the six fundamental checks, including build-up times, spring brake function, air-loss rate, and governor cut-in/cut-out pressures. Participants will demonstrate safe air brake procedures through practical exercises and assessments.
Through guided practice and testing, firefighters will improve their ability to maneuver large apparatus in tight spaces using offset and 90-degree backing techniques.
Every aspect of the course is aligned with the Ministry of Transportation’s commercial licensing standards, ensuring firefighters are ready for the DZ Road Test.
Students learn in pairs and groups, coach each other through drills, and receive individualized feedback from instructors who understand the challenges of emergency vehicle operation.
Whether you're new to driving heavy apparatus or looking to refresh your skills, this course ensures you're road-ready with the confidence and technical knowledge needed for safe operation in high-pressure environments.
